Missions of the Consortium

Mathematics, Data Science and AI has become essential knowledge and skills required in a wide variety of fields in this digital age. The Consortium aims to develop and spread the effective educational environment of this subject for every student, irrespective of his/her field of specialization, in higher education. In addition, the Consortium is looking to contribute towards training of internationally competitive researchers and top-notch industry experts in related fields.

History

2017

Six universities (Hokkaido University, the University of Tokyo, Shiga University, Kyoto University, Osaka University, and Kyushu University) were selected as the “Core Universities for Strengthening Education in Mathematics and Data Science” by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) to establish the Japan Inter-University Consortium.

2019

In order to facilitate the nationwide development of mathematics, data science and AI education, the Consortium expanded with 20 more national universities and initiated its regional activities in six divisions (Hokkaido/Tohoku, Kanto/Tokyo, Chubu/Tokai, Kinki, Chugoku/Shikoku, and Kyushu/Okinawa).

2020

To further accelerate its nationwide and regional activities, the Consortium welcomed 10 more national universities (3 general and 7 specialized-fields), as well as public and private universities and the National Institute of Technology.

2022

The Consortium entered its second term based upon 11 representative and 18 specialized-fields national universities.
