For those who have trouble with data analysis

The Data Science Commons at the Mathematics and Informatics Center accepts consultations regarding the data analysis of all research activities in the University of Tokyo.

Case 1

“I have data, but I don’t know how to deal with it.”
We will assist you by introducing appropriate analytical methods.

Case 2

"I’m not sure how to collect data."
We will help you consider the design of effective data collection methods or experiments.

Case 3

"I’m using a standard method in my area, but are there any other suitable methods?"
We will deliberate with you while respecting your field.

Case 4

"I want to try machine learning, but I don’t know where to start."
We will suggest references and/or form a study group. Join us!

How to apply

  1. Submit your questions by filling out the following form. If you have a supervisor or research director, obtain his/her permission in advance.
  2. A staff member from the Data Science Commons will contact you and schedule a meeting.
  3. Each meeting lasts about 1 hour, basically on-site. Online meetings are also available if necessary. A faculty member and assistant will attend the meeting.
  4. If we cannot solve your problem, we may refer you to professionals.

  • Data analysis of all research fields from engineering to the humanities.

Other notes

  • We do not give advice on assignments or lectures.
  • If you have a supervisor or research director, please obtain his/her permission in advance.
  • It may take a long time to answer your question if we receive a large volume of applications.
  • We do not disclose information such as your name or details of the consultation, only some statistical information such as the institute to which you belong.
  • The language used is English (or Japanese).
